I am very excited to present the newest addition to the Woodland line of Kontakt instruments – the Woodland Grand Piano. Created by uniting technology in nature in an instrument that materializes the essence of creaking forests with rustling leaves. The Woodland Grand Piano is the successor of the Woodland Piano (upright).

Inspired by Icelandic and Scandinavian natural beauty, the Woodland Grand Piano was carefully recorded ensuring that the natural wooden tones and resonances of each moving part of the piano were captured. The Woodland Grand Piano is not your everyday piano: it will never fail to transport you to the wilderness.

The physical piano is a Yamaha C5 Grand outfitted with a Disklavier system, which I used to aid me in creating this instrument, as showcased in the video walkthrough.

Five articulations + Releases and Pedal sounds

Compatible with Kontakt 6.2.2 and up

I recorded the Grand up close with the exact same seven microphones as the previous upright Woodland Piano (three stereo set-ups shown in the walkthrough video).

The instrument features five different articulations - Felt, Normal, Muted, Plucked, and Rain (an experimental articulation created by connecting an arpeggiator to the piano) - plus release triggers and pedal sounds. The articulations of Felt, Normal, and Muted feature four velocity layers and were recorded in both pedal up and down.

The seven-mic setup really shines in this instrument thanks to its length, allowing you to experience vastly different timbres depending on your mic configuration.

The Woodland Grand Piano is more than an instrument; it is an invitation to embark on a musical journey inspired by the serene beauty of the forest. Take your compositions to new territories, enveloping your audience in a warm and lush sonic experience that transports them to the heart of nature. Tap into a new world of sounds with the Woodland Grand Piano and enjoy the timeless magic of music woven with the natural world.

I look forward to seeing where your journeys take you.
